General Motors Research and Development put that challenge before researchers and students from the FUTURE LAB at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Israel. The task: Conceptualize new ways to help rear seat passengers, particularly children, have a richer experience on the road.

The Windows of Opportunity (WOO) Project was inspired by psychological studies indicating car passengers often feel disconnected from their environment, GM asked the Bezalel students to turn car windows into interactive displays capable of stimulating awareness, nurturing curiosity and encouraging a stronger connection with the world outside the vehicle.
"Traditionally, the use of interactive displays in cars has been limited to the driver and front passenger, but we see an opportunity to provide a technology interface designed specifically for rear seat passengers," said Tom Seder, GM R&D lab group manager for human-machine interface. "Advanced windows that are capable of responding to vehicle speed and location could augment real world views with interactive enhancements to provide entertainment and educational value."

Since GM has no immediate plans to put interactive display windows into production vehicles, the R&D team gave free reign to the Bezalel students to create applications without concern whether they could be mass produced. Bezalel is Israel’s oldest institute of higher education and one of the more prestigious schools of its kind in the world.

Microsoft® WebMatrix is a brand new web development tool from Microsoft that includes everything you need for website development. Start from open source web applications, built-in web templates or just start writing code yourself. It’s all-inclusive, simple and best of all free. Developing websites has never been easier.

WebMatrix is a free Web development tool that installs in minutes and elegantly brings together a Web server, a database, and programming frameworks into a single, integrated experience. WebMatrix lets you code, test, and deploy both ASP.NET and PHP applications side by side.

Look at the following Video to get more insight in ‘Microsoft WebMatrix’

WebMatrix connects you to a world of popular and free open-source Web applications, including DotNetNuke, Umbraco, WordPress, Joomla!, and more. Simply select an application from the built-in gallery, and WebMatrix handles the downloading and installation of your new Web site. The days of hand-editing configuration files and making sure you have all the right components are long gone. Customize your site using the built in code editor and make it yours.

I am exited to try this IDE, hope it will support my favorite HTML 5

Windows phone 8? Is this next version of Windows phone?

Hello Guys,

Here is cool video for Windows next phone, it will be coming till end of this year 2011.

Lot of work has been done in user interface (UI) but most importantly it is looking same as of Windows 8 which will be next OS from Microsoft.

I guess, like Windows 8 we can also build apps for Windows phone 8 (presumably it will be name of next phone) we will able to develop mobile applications in HTML 5, Looking cool!

Have a look at rocking video below:

Microsoft Windows 8 and HTML 5 – The future of Microsoft technologies

windows-8

Hello Guys,

You know new version of Microsoft is coming soon which is Windows 8! In this Microsoft has revamp entire user interface.

User interface is now more user friendly, touch friendly and platform friendly too! We can run this OS on any platform like PC, Mobile or Tablets looking good na.

Interesting thing is, nice UI applications are built in HTML5 and Java scripts. Microsoft is really promoting HTML 5 support in Windows 8 and even in IE 10. This is really good, so I am sure now every developer will have to upgrade with there technology skills and will have to learn HTML5.

Have a look at following video from Microsoft, this will clear more of your doubts

How grateful would you say you are? Did you know that your gratitude level can directly affect your happiness? Now that may sound little strange.

Even financial experts agree that gratitude is a vital component for increasing wealth and success. This basic premise of gratitude is to acquire a more positive and receptive state of being. Here is how it actually works. You begin by being grateful for the smaller and more immediate things like having a place to live, food to eat, etc. By placing yourself in a positive frame of mind through gratitude, you open yourself to all the good things the universe has to offer.

That is when you can actually begin to attract good things to you. And as you become more comfortable with the positive things that basic gratitude brings, you will likely find yourself feeling grateful for even bigger things like being alive, learning hard lessons, your past mistakes, the freedom to make choices in life, and more. This type of gratitude catapults you even further along the path to a successful and happy life.

Once you reach the point where you remain in a constant state of gratitude, you will become a magnet that attracts the good things to you.

Take some time every day this week to note those things that you are grateful for, from the smallest to the biggest.

Not all of them crying……But why are some of them crying….
WHAT IS THIS??? I’m lying there on the floor…
"I AM HERE" ……. I shouted!!! No one is listening.

"LOOK I AM NOT DEAD" …. I screamed once again!! No one is interested in me.

They all were looking at me on the bed. I went back to my bed room.
"Am I dead??" I asked myself…

Where is my wife, my children, my Mom, my Dad, my friends?
I found them in the next room, all of them were crying…still trying to console each other.
My wife was crying… she was really looking sad.
My little kid was not sure what happened, but he was crying just because his Mom was sad..
How can I go without saying to my kid that I really love him,
I really do care for him. ??
How can I go without saying to my wife that she is really the most beautiful and most caring wife in
this world..??
How can I go without saying to my parents that I’m what I am … just because of you??
How can I go without telling my friends that without them perhaps I would have done most of the
wrong things in my life… thanks for being there always when I need them…and sorry for not being
there when they really need me..

I can see a person standing in the corner and trying to hide his tears….
Oh…. he was once my best friend, but a small misunderstanding made us part, and we both have a
strong enough ego to keep us disconnected.
I went there….. And offered him my hand, "Dear friend…. I just want to say sorry for everything, we are still best friends,

please forgive me."
No response from other side, what the hell?? He is still preserving his ego, I am saying sorry… even
then!!!
I really don’t care for such people.
But one second…… It seems he is not able to see me!!!! He did not see my extended hand.
My goodness…… AM I REALLY DEAD???
I just sat down near ME; I was also feeling like crying…
"OH ALMIGHTY!!!! PLEASE JUST GIVE ME FEW MORE DAYS…"
I just want to make my wife, my parents; my friends realize how much I love them…..
My wife entered the room, she looks beautiful. "YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL" I shouted.
She didn’t hear my words, in fact she never heard these words because I never said this to her.

"GOD!!!! ONE MORE CHANCE PLEASE!!!!"
"You shouted in your sleep," said my wife as she gently woke me up. "Did you have a nightmare?"
I was sleeping….
Ohh that was just a dream….
My wife was there… she can hear me… This is the happiest moment of my life…
I hugged her and whispered….
"YOU ARE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL AND CARING WIFE IN THIS UNIVERSE…..
How to maintain work and life Balance

In this fast moving life we are surrounded by many pressures that we’ve to deal with every other day. Especially for urban working women, running a home and handling the tight deadlines at work can really be quite a task. Here are few suggestions that can be effective in maintaining a better balancing while playing both the roles.

1. Time management

The time-waster in you steal your productivity in the form of reading email, net surfing, or making personal calls. As a result, you work overtime, more than 10 hours a day. You are way too busy to get off your desk for a lunch break, so you starve instead. You compromise on your social life to finish your monthly projections. By tracking your daily activities, you get to know how did you spend whole day and with such a practice of properly analyzing and scheduling, you can design your day according to your work load to manage your professional and social life better.

2. Use technology

No doubt that personal habits and practices can be very effective in time management, but technology can also be yet another weapon in serving the same. There are several ways a busy executive can make technology more effective for his or her own use. For instance, Microsoft Outlook with Business Contact Manager can be very useful for you in organizing your contacts, with quick and easy access.

3. Leave your work at work

When you go home after your working hours, focus on your family. There is very little that will be that much of an emergency that it can’t wait until the next morning. Taking your works at home creates tension and makes you stressful even if you are lying on your bed at home, which will ultimately affect your family as well. Leave work at work.

4. Organize/Prioritize

In order to make the work-flow as smooth as possible, it’s very important for you to organize every element of your daily life. According to experts, everything in your business should be set up using logical systems so anyone needing anything can find it when they need it. Selecting what’s important and what can wait contributes a lot to the booking your time effectively. Emphasis should always be on trimming the essential from the secondary.

5. Don’t overbook

Don’t pack your entire day full with meetings and tasks. Things don’t always go as planned and you need some buffer. Hence, it is recommended to take sufficient amount of work so that you can handle them well. Otherwise, your work hours will get extended.

Differentiator Features of SQL sever 2008

Here are the top 10 reasons why 10 reasons why SQL Server 2008 is going to rock.

10. Plug-in model for SSMS. SSMS 2005 also had a plug-in model, but it was not published, so the few developers that braved that environment were flying blind. Apparently for 2008, the plug-in model will be published and a thousand add-ins will bloom.

9. Inline variable assignment. I often wondered why, as a language, SQL languishes behind the times. I mean, it has barely any modern syntactic sugar. Well, in this version, they are at least scratching the the tip of the iceberg.

Instead of:

DECLARE @myVar int

SET @myVar = 5

You can do it in one line:

DECLARE @myVar int = 5

8. C like math syntax. SET @i += 5. Enough said. They finally let a C# developer on the SQL team.

7. Auditing. It’s a 10 dollar word for storing changes to your data for later review, debugging or in response to regulatory laws. It’s a thankless and a mundane task and no one is ever excited by the prospect of writing triggers to handle it. SQL Server 2008 introduces automatic auditing, so we can now check one thing off our to do list.

6. Compression. You may think that this feature is a waste of time, but it’s not what it sounds like. The release will offer row-level and page-level compression. The compression mostly takes place on the metadata. For instance, page compression will store common data for affected rows in a single place.

The metadata storage for variable length fields is going to be completely crazy: they are pushing things into bits (instead of bytes). For instance, length of the varchar will be stored in 3 bits.

Anyway, I don’t really care about space savings – storage is cheap. What I do care about is that the feature promised (key word here "promises") to reduce I/O and RAM utilization, while increasing CPU utilization. Every single performance problem I ever dealt with had to do with I/O overloading. Will see how this plays out. I am skeptical until I see some real world production benchmarks.

5. Filtered Indexes. This is another feature that sounds great – will have to see how it plays out. Anyway, it allows you to create an index while specifying what rows are not to be in the index. For example, index all rows where Status! = null. Theoretically, it’ll get rid of all the dead weight in the index, allowing for faster queries.

4. Resource governor. All I can say is FINALLY. Sybase has had it since version 12 (that’s last millennium, people). Basically it allows the DBA to specify how much resource (e.g. CPU/RAM) each user is entitled to. At the very least, it’ll prevent people, with sparse SQL knowledge from shooting off a query with a Cartesian product and bringing down the box.

Actually Sybase is still ahead of MS on this feature. Its ASE server allows you to prioritize one user over another – a feature that I found immensely useful.

3. Plan freezing. This is a solution to my personal pet peeve. Sometimes SQL Server decides to change its plan on you (in response to data changes, etc…). If you’ve achieved your optimal query plan, now you can stick with it. Yeah, I know, hints are evil, but there are situations when you want to take a hammer to SQL Server – well, this is the chill pill.

2. Processing of delimited strings. This is awesome and I could have used this feature…well, always. Currently, we pass in delimited strings in the following manner:

exec sp_MySproc 'murphy,35;galen,31;samuels,27;colton,42'

Then the stored proc needs to parse the string into a usable form – a mindless task.

In 2008, Microsoft introduced Table Value Parameters (TVP).

CREATE TYPE PeepsType AS TABLE (Name varchar(20), Age int)

DECLARE @myPeeps PeepsType

INSERT @myPeeps SELECT 'murphy', 35

INSERT @myPeeps SELECT 'galen', 31

INSERT @myPeeps SELECT 'samuels', 27

INSERT @myPeeps SELECT 'colton', 42

exec sp_MySproc2 @myPeeps

And the sproc would look like this:

CREATE PROCEDURE sp_MySproc2(@myPeeps PeepsType READONLY) ...

The advantage here is that you can treat the Table Type as a regular table, use it in joins, etc. Say goodbye to all those string parsing routines.

1. Intellisense in the SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS). This has been previously possible in SQL Server 2000 and 2005 with use of 3rd party add-ins like SQL Prompt ($195). But these tools are a horrible hack at best (e.g. they hook into the editor window and try to interpret what the application is doing).

Built-in intellisense is huge – it means new people can easily learn the database schema as they go.

Solution to MS SQL Error: Database diagram support objects cannot be installed

If you ever get a message like this when trying to create a diagram in SQL 2005
“Database diagram support objects cannot be installed because this database does not have a valid owner. To continue, first use the Files page of the Database Properties dialog box or the ALTER AUTHORIZATION statement to set the database owner to a valid login, then add the database diagram support objects.”

Here’s step by step what you have to do:

EXEC sp_dbcmptlevel ‘yourDB’, ’90′;
go
ALTER AUTHORIZATION ON DATABASE::yourDB TO “yourLogin”
go
use [yourDB]
go
EXECUTE AS USER = N’dbo’ REVERT
go

Microsoft has finally announced the Visual Studio LightSwitch, which is featured as the newest member of the Visual Studio product family.

Microsoft Visual Studio LightSwitch gives you a simpler and faster way to create professional-quality business applications for the desktop, the web, and the cloud.

Microsoft has revealed that LightSwitch dramatically decreases the time it takes to build a custom application by automatically handling routine code; it’s a rapid application development tool that offers application shells and screen templates to allow the developer to concentrate on the core business logic. The tool is also provided with “drag and drop” functionality, but the full access to the .NET framework is still available. Thus, “if you need to tinker under the hood, you can do so by opening your LightSwitch application in the “full” version of Visual Studio.”

Look at the following Video, this will help you to get basics of ‘LightSwitch’

Following are the some features of ‘Microsoft Visual Studio LightSwitch’

QUICKLY CREATE PROFESSIONAL-QUALITY BUSINESS APPLICATIONS

Just came across some tips and thought to ‘Work Freely and Perform Better at Work’.

Spare some time from your schedule and do read the entire article. It’s worth reading.

1. Take time before you react. Study any give situation carefully, think about it and come up with a plan. This is better way to respond than being hasty.
2. Prioritize tasks, focus on tasks which are linked to your most immediate objective.
3. Direct your energy toward situations where you can affect the outcome and don’t spend time worrying about what you cannot change. Successful people focus on tasks which they can control and let go of the rest.
Winners narrow their efforts only to what will help them win. So recognize what you can control and what you can’t.
4. Take the help of others. You can seek the input of other people before reaching any decision. You may also delegate some tasks to others if you have a tight schedule. Decide which tasks can be delegated to other people and do so.
5. Learn how to deal with different kinds of people at work – complainers, aggressive people etc. Develop your listening skills in order to interact better with people and pay attention to improving your communication skills.
6. Stop looking at the clock. When you have to meet a tight deadline, then instead of constantly looking at the clock, focus on the task at hand. Do the task with full concentration. Break bigger tasks down into smaller ones, try to finish the most urgent tasks first and then the low-priority ones. Assign time frames dedicated solely for each particular task.
7. Think positively at all times. Maintain mental discipline by not allowing thoughts of failure into your head.
8. Keep Your Mind In The Present. Winners maintain mental focus in the present. The here and now is where you perform, not the regrets of the past or the uncertainty of the future. Focus on what you are doing, when you do it. You can keep your mind in the present by concentrating fully on the task at hand while you are performing it. If you are focused on the present, you can avoid fears and doubts.
9. Focus on the task and not the outcome. Achievers keep their eye on the journey and not the goal. Having objectives is helpful, but when you execute, stay focused on the process. You cannot completely control the outcome as it can depend on many other factors, some of which may not be in your hands. (Remember tip#3).
10. Enjoy yourself: Relaxation is important if you want to perform any task well. If you are stressed out, then you may not be able to give your 100%. So enjoy the task you are doing, and you will feel relaxed and enthusiastic about it.
11. Water bottle: Eight glasses of water a day are recommended by experts. Keep a bottle at your desk to stay hydrated and avoid fatigue and sluggishness—two major signs of dehydration.
